First Au lines up First Hit assays amid a rapid WA gold expansion

First Au has spent the September quarter assembling a broader Western Australian gold portfolio, completing Riverina East, advancing First Hit drilling and pursuing a recommended takeover of Javelin Minerals. The expansion comes with $1.4 million in cash, multiple conditional transactions and assay results still pending.

  • Riverina East acquisition completed for $4.0 million in cash, shares and performance rights
  • 2,000 metre maiden RC program completed at historic high-grade First Hit
  • Recommended all-scrip takeover would combine First Au and Javelin’s Eastern Goldfields projects
  • Potential Gimlet processing pathway agreed with Forrestania Resources
  • $1.4 million cash balance and $482,000 in quarterly exploration expenditure

First Hit drilling moves from plan to pending assays

First Au Limited (ASX:FAU) has completed a 2,000 metre maiden reverse-circulation drilling program at the historic First Hit gold mine, turning its flagship Riverina East acquisition into the company’s most immediate test of exploration execution. The drilling targeted depth extensions below workings that historically produced about 30,000 ounces at 7.7 grams per tonne of gold over 15 months, as well as near-surface secondary structures. Samples have been submitted to a certified Kalgoorlie laboratory, with results expected during the December quarter.

The program follows the company’s stated objective of advancing First Hit towards a maiden Mineral Resource Estimate. That ambition remains just that until assays and geological interpretation are available, but the work has now moved the project beyond planning. First Au had previously outlined a program intended both to test extensions to known high-grade mineralisation and improve data density in areas that could eventually contribute to a resource estimate.

Riverina East gives First Au a larger operating base

During the quarter, First Au completed its acquisition of the 255-square-kilometre Riverina East Gold Project from Viking Mines (ASX:VKA). The package includes 11 mineral licences, an exploration licence application, the First Hit mine and the Bifrost mineralisation site, west of Menzies and north of Ora Banda’s Riverina Gold Mine.

The consideration comprises $1.2 million in cash, $1.0 million in shares and $2.8 million in performance rights, alongside a commitment to spend $500,000 on drilling within the first 12 months. The company has since agreed to acquire six additional Lady Jane exploration licences in the Ora Banda district, a deal that would expand the Riverina tenure but remains subject to completion conditions. That earlier transaction included a $250,000 minimum drilling commitment and deferred consideration payable at the seller’s election.

Portfolio expansion adds Sandstone and Javelin transactions

First Au also agreed to acquire five tenements in the established Sandstone gold district, supported by historical RC drilling across the Harmonic and Creasy prospects. The proposed work program centres on validating the database and assessing whether it can support a maiden JORC-compliant resource. Consideration includes $350,000 in cash, $400,000 in shares and a further $150,000 linked to an inferred or higher resource of at least 10,000 ounces at a cut-off grade of at least 0.5 grams per tonne.

The larger corporate move is a recommended all-scrip takeover of Javelin Minerals (ASX:JAV). Following First Au’s capital consolidation, the exchange ratio is 0.5882 First Au shares for each Javelin share. If completed, the transaction would combine First Au’s Gimlet and Riverina East projects with Javelin’s Eureka and Coogee projects in the Eastern Goldfields. The consideration is a fixed number of shares rather than a fixed cash value, so its market value will move with First Au’s share price.

Gimlet gains a potential processing route

At Gimlet, First Au entered a conditional ore purchase agreement with Forrestania Resources (ASX:FRS), creating a potential route to process and monetise suitable gold mineralisation without building a standalone plant. The arrangement remains dependent on Forrestania confirming that processing operations are ready, First Au securing the necessary permits and approvals, and the company’s board making a positive decision to mine Gimlet by the relevant deadline.

The company continued data review and mineability work at Gimlet during the quarter, including environmental survey planning and scoping of possible metallurgical test work. A processing agreement can reduce one potential capital hurdle, but it does not itself establish that Gimlet will be mined or that commercial processing will proceed.

Cash resources face a growing list of commitments

First Au reported $1.4 million in cash at 30 September after paying $1.9 million for tenement acquisitions and recording $482,000 in exploration and evaluation expenditure. It reported no mining production or development expenditure during the quarter. The company also completed a 20:1 consolidation of its shares, options and performance rights on 5 October.

The balance sheet now sits alongside a crowded work program: First Hit assay interpretation and resource work, Riverina exploration, early-stage auger drilling at Barlee, Sandstone validation and drilling, and commitments attached to acquired projects. The immediate investment test is therefore narrower than the breadth of the portfolio: whether First Hit delivers results strong enough to justify the next round of spending while the Javelin transaction and other acquisitions progress through their conditions.

Bottom Line?

First Hit assay results are the clearest near-term catalyst, but First Au’s expanding project list will need to be matched by funding, approvals and evidence of economic mineralisation.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the completed First Hit drilling confirm extensions capable of supporting a maiden Mineral Resource Estimate?
  • Can First Au fund its growing exploration commitments while retaining flexibility around the Javelin takeover and new acquisitions?
  • Will the Forrestania processing arrangement progress beyond a conditional pathway to a viable Gimlet mining decision?
