Antimony Resources brings Tecomatlán closer to first concentrate

Antimony Resources says its Tecomatlán processing plant in Mexico has entered the concentrate production phase, with key circuits operational and a first bulk antimony concentrate now targeted. The result remains unverified: the company still needs to demonstrate stable recoveries, confirm product quality and complete a commercial sale.

  • Tecomatlán plant advances into integrated concentrate production
  • Approximately 200 tonnes of Chinantla feed material targeted
  • About 40 tonnes of low-grade test material processed and recycled
  • Independent assays planned after first bulk concentrate
  • Initial commercial sale discussions described as advanced

Tecomatlán enters concentrate production phase

Antimony Resources Limited (ASX:ANT) has moved its Tecomatlán processing plant in Puebla, Mexico, beyond commissioning and into the more consequential test of recovering a saleable product. The company says its key processing circuits are now functioning and that integrated processing is under way as it targets its first bulk antimony concentrate.

The campaign is built around approximately 200 tonnes of previously prepared Chinantla feed material. ANT says the plant is being ramped up in a controlled manner, with operating conditions adjusted to improve throughput, metallurgical recoveries and concentrate quality. The company had previously announced the start of this 200-tonne campaign in its 200-tonne Tecomatlán campaign, making the latest update a progress report rather than confirmation of completed production.

Early testwork continues before higher-grade feed

About 40 tonnes of low-grade test material has been processed and recycled through the plant while ANT continues to optimise its flotation circuit. The company expects to introduce onsite XRF analytical capability shortly, which it says should improve monitoring of feed, concentrate and tailings grades before higher-grade feed material is processed.

That sequence matters because the announcement does not report a verified concentrate volume, grade or recovery rate. ANT’s immediate objective is to establish stable processing conditions, recover the first bulk concentrate and generate the operating and metallurgical data needed to validate the process.

Commercial sale remains subject to verification

ANT says arrangements for an initial commercial sale are being advanced, but no binding sale or offtake agreement is disclosed in the announcement. Once a first bulk concentrate is produced, the company intends to undertake sampling and independent assay verification to establish final product specifications and metallurgical performance.

The distinction is important for investors. Tecomatlán is testing the technical and commercial viability of processing third-party Chinantla material; ANT holds no ownership interest in Chinantla, and the campaign is not based on a Mineral Resource, Ore Reserve, production target or feasibility study. The company expressly cautions that the programme may not produce concentrate meeting required specifications, and that any concentrate produced may not be sold.

Next test is repeatable plant performance

The announcement marks a positive operational step for ANT’s planned North American antimony platform, which also includes the Los Lirios project in Mexico and the Dollar and Milton assets in Nevada. But the next evidence will need to come from the plant itself: stable throughput, independently verified grades and recoveries, and a completed commercial transaction would provide a materially stronger proof point than commissioning progress alone.

Bottom Line?

ANT has reached the plant-scale test that matters, but the investment case still hinges on verified concentrate quality, repeatable recoveries and an actual sale.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will Tecomatlán produce a concentrate that independent assays confirm meets commercial specifications?
  • Can the plant maintain stable throughput and recoveries once higher-grade feed replaces the low-grade test material?
  • When will ANT convert advanced commercial discussions into a binding sale or offtake arrangement?
